I make nut milks, rice milks, pumpkin soups, biscuits, dinner rolls, and all sorts of other things. We got this new in 2007. I probably use this thing much more than most people would ever in their life. And I adore this blender, it is one piece and so easy to clean- no taking apart things, just rinse and toss in the dishwasher.
The food processor does properly too, I wish the blade reached just a little additional to the edges but apart from that- it only has 2 speeds, which is fine simply because most of the time the other speeds are just for filler. As for not turning on when you plug it in- it does have a safety feature if you don't have it rotate it far enough it will not turn on- which is fantastic! This factor is so great that I do not want any other blender or food processor, I am really going to buy replacement parts from the t-fal website so I can keep it going for another couple of years.
I will say that the blender does work properly but a great blender could be had for a great deal less money. It was purchased for the multiple attachments and functions and also the hope to remove a few of the electric gadgets now cluttering our counter tops and consolidate into one machine. So far I have not been impressed throughout usage.
